Construction

Construction is necessary to make improvements. It can be a challenge when in the middle of it but most often can make things better in the long run. That is what is happening now, on Fort Riley Blvd. It is needed and will be great when completed. Until then, it is going to be a bit tricky to deal with but not unbearable. At this moment our facility can still be accessed on a right in, right out basis from Fort Riley Blvd. It isn’t too painful to get in and out if you avoid the 5:00 rush hour. We also have secondary “Scenic” route that will be open the entire time and you will avoid all construction. If you are feeling adventurous-give it a try! I bet you didn’t even know about the GIANT hill on Wilmar! It is a fun one! You can reach us by going North from Fort Riley Blvd on Westwood. Turn left on Walnut Street and follow it to Shelle Street and take another left. From there go to Wilmar and down the big hill. Turn right onto Justin Street and then left onto Poliska Lane. Travel down the short gravel road and there we are!! Wasn’t that fun?? See you soon!!

Fall Cleaning

I know that many people love a good spring cleaning but I am a big supporter of fall cleaning. The kids are back in school, time for a routine and a clean schedule. Cleaning the home and sorting through drawers and closets helps me to feel more organized and ready to tackle a new school year. Also, the holidays are fast approaching and company may be heading my way so that means cleaning out that spare bedroom! With the cooler temps that also means that my car is going to need to have that space back in the garage unless I want to scrape windows every morning before work. With extra cleaning it might mean that there is stuff that you are unsure as to where to put it. Let us answer questions for you and guide you in the right direction for a storage unit that fits your needs. We have a wide array of spaces available both big and small. Give us a call.

Fall has arrived!

It is the perfect amount of space for those little items that would help you create just a bit more space for guests this upcoming holiday season!

Advantages to Climate Control Storage

Often I get the question "What types of things would I need to store in a Climate Control unit? What is the difference between that and a regular storage unit?" Today I hope to help answer those questions.

A Climate Control storage unit is typically kept at a temperature between 50-85 degrees. There is a light in the storage unit as well as a AC/heat duct. Because we are regulating the temperature, we also will be regulating the humidity as well--which is a big deal this time of year. Extreme high and low temperatures may cause wood to warp or leather to crack, while high humidity could cause precious family photos to mildew, discolor and stick together. If you are a business and need to keep important documents and papers in order but are short on space at your office, Climate Control storage may be the perfect place to put those extras. Having a light in the storage unit will also help when needing to find important information.

Another advantage to getting a Climate Control storage unit with us is that all the units are within another building. That means the unit itself is out of the elements and no matter what time of year it is, you can go through your unit without getting wet or freezing. There is also added security to get into the building. Most buildings have a large garage door that you can bring bulky items through and then the storage units are located close by inside the building.

A regular storage unit is like a garage would be and should be just fine for every day items and storing smaller items in plastic containers with lids will be even more helpful. But if you have collectibles, heirloom items, expensive electronics or business documents, you may want to consider a Climate Control storage unit. Give us a call and we will help answer and questions you may have.

When is a good time to get storage?

Where did the summer go? It was fast and furious that is for sure! It seems like just yesterday I was telling students renting space to have a great summer and now we are preparing for them to return. With the students gathering their things to move into apartments for the school year, now would be the perfect time to get a space if you have been considering it. Weather will soon begin to cool, we will start to spend more time indoors and all the extra stuff in our homes may have us going a bit stir crazy. So, let us help by giving you some extra space in your home. August and September will be the perfect time for us to help you get a storage unit to fit your needs. Hope to see you soon!!

Packing a Moving Truck

There are lots of people moving around as the spring weather sets in. One part of that move could include the use of a moving truck. It is always a good idea, after renting a truck to make sure that the truck is clean and free of dirt and trash. You may want to consider laying down a tarp to create a clean base. You may also want to have one or two people who stay in the truck to organize it while others bring the items to be loaded. When loading items that could shift or move around during the drive, make sure they are secured with straps, ropes or put in a stationary mode. Fill in the spaces under tables or on top of hutches to maximize the use of space. Use large, soft items as protection for more fragile pieces. Avoid leaving space between boxes. If necessary, fill small spaces with wrapped up bedding or rugs, to keep boxes from shifting around. Remember to put the most immediately needed items in last to ensure they will be unpacked quickly and put into place. And, of course, if we can help you to store items until you are ready to move in or if your new space is a bit smaller than you need, give us a call. We would be happy to keep track of your possessions!--It is our profession! Happy moving!!

Considering Self-Storage?

Are you thinking about taking advantage of a self-storage facility? If you are, you are not alone. Self Storage is in high demand-all over the country. Before jumping in however there are a few things to consider.

Before renting storage unit, determine how much space you will need. Take note of your possessions and donate items that you no longer use or simply toss those that are expired or no longer usable. From there you can estimate the space you will need. If given the option of a smaller unit versus a larger one, think about how often you will be needing access  to the items stored. If you will be needing in the unit often, you may want the extra space to be able to move items around without the fear of breaking something important or feeling cramped while organizing your things.

Speaking of organizing, while packing up your belongings, put thought into how you are placing your items. Make sure all boxes are correctly marked. Use quality boxes or totes with lids. List on the front of the box which room it was taken so that you will be able to find items more easily once needed.

Perhaps there are special circumstances for your storage. Are you part of a business which is required to keep records for a certain amount of time? You may want a climate control storage unit. Our climate control units have a light in the unit and are within a building making it easier to look through boxes and will keep you out of the elements so that you can organize with ease. Or maybe you are a small business in the process of growing into a much larger company? You can keep some of your inventory with us until you are able to expand.

Maybe you are downsizing to a smaller home. You don't have to sell your family heirlooms. Add a reasonable monthly fee to your budget and rent a storage space for your treasured belongings.

If you are planning to add on to your home and don't want your belongings to be in the way of the construction taking place, store items with us until all the work is complete. That way you will not risk damage to important items.

Maybe you are in the military and have just received an overseas assignment. Renting a storage space from us will ease your mind so that you can complete your assignment and return knowing that your items were in a safe and secure environment.
